Gospel music artist Daniel Childs does not take his heritage in music lightly, and certainly does not take lightly the meanings behind his songs.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Childs grew up with musical influences literally all around him. Daniel’s father, Andy Childs is a successful country music artist and writer. Daniel’s grandfather, Cecil Blackwood, was baritone singer and group leader for the world-famous Blackwood Brothers Quartet (winners of nine Grammy awards and twenty-seven Dove awards).
Daniel grew up only caring about music, and graduated high school having made many friends from playing in bands, being president of the school’s FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) program, and performing an original song he wrote for his senior class live at the graduation ceremony.
In the years that followed, Daniel immediately got his hands in the music industry, doing everything from making independent records (including his 2010 release “Wisdom For Fools”), to performing for many events, to being a back-up musician, to being Worship leader on staff at many churches.
In the year 2008, Daniel first got into the world of Southern Gospel music, and spent the next few years singing with several different quartets (The Blackwood Gospel Quartet, The Toney Brothers, and The Skyline Boys, to name a few). Currently, Daniel travels and sings full-time with lifetime friend Rick Price in a trio called Blackwood Legacy.
Today, in 2012, Daniel Childs feels confident that he is at his best as an artist. Currently in the studio recording an album that has a new sound of its very own, the music Daniel is coming up with has been shaped by all his musical expereinces.
“My style is a culmination of me, and is a mix of every style that has influenced me,” Daniel says. ”If I were to compare my sound to other artists, there’s no way it would be accurate, because I’m really going for my own thing.”
Daniel Childs plans to release his new album in 2012, and has high expectations and hopes for the public’s response to his work of art. Utilizing his skills as a bass guitar player, pianist, rythm guitar player and vocalist, Daniel is striving to make an album that truly is a significant offering of music.
“Everything in my life, everything I’ve been through, and everything I am revolves around one Person… and that is Jesus Christ, my Savior. I would be nothing without Him. So, naturally, any album I make is going to express that. At the same time, I am trying to write songs that people can relate to about all kinds of issues in life. With Christ as the center focus, I want my music to be something that is pleasing to Him.”
Daniel Childs continues to travel singing tenor for Blackwood Legacy, and also is performing solo concert dates in addition to working on his forthcoming album. In Daniel’s solo concerts, he puts forth an exciting Gospel music performance, as well as a time of deep testimony. Placing ministry above all other priorities in his concerts, Daniel is excited about hitting the road as a solo artist for the first time.
Daniel’s songs are heart-felt and written with care. Be ready for an excellent release in 2012, and be ready for some fantastic concert appearances!
